The Value for Week 10 is:
Courage is the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. No matter what challenges we face, whether it is related to our health, relationships, or academic ability – we can be encouraged to know that our heavenly father is always there for us. His love empowers us.
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
Winner of the Nobel Laureate, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, wrote a novel called ‘Love in the time of Cholera.’ In the book he illustrates a marriage that falls apart … over a bar of soap. Yes folks – a bar of soap. [Years ago, before flip top lids on toothpaste I heard of many couples who fought over the lid being left off!]
The challenge in the relationship started with a just a few words. Some smart remarks by the husband about the wife’s forgetfulness caused pain. Both let their pride get in the way, and for seven months it was separate rooms and meals in silence. Even in old age, if the soap was mentioned the pain was still there.
It reminds me of what James the brother of Jesus said:
James 3:5 (Message version) A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire.
The comparison with fire is certainly a useful one for those of us who are familiar with the Aussie bush, and how easily it can be destroyed by bushfires. Equally powerful are the words for good. Words that build up and words that strengthen are all too few. In choosing what type of words we use (or listen to) there are a couple of ideas that may help us.
Before you speak ask yourself: is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence? ~ Sai Baba
Whoever gossips to you – will gossip about you. ~ Spanish Proverb
Small minds talk about people, mediocre minds talk about things and great minds talk about ideas. Try and be a great mind in everything you do.
It’s worth a thought.

While Mrs Humble was on roster at school this week she gave the Year 5 boys something practical to do. They all went over to the Home Economics room and made Anzac biscuits that were then bagged up in separate paper bags and shared the next day with all the students and teachers at school. It was lots of fun.

With the last day of school term today, I thought I’d promote the Baseline for young people (City of Whittlesea Youth Services) school holiday ONLINE ACTIVITIES one last time.
Please do promote with your students, communities, clubs, friends….
I think the escape rooms are full, but….
- the Leadership opportunity is Free & AMAZING!
- We’ve done the Trivia before. The Trivia-Master is LOADS of fun and this activity is the absolute bomb. It’s online. It’s free. Please encourage people to register and come along. They can form a team or come alone and meet up with others… We are running this on both Wednesdays of the holidays (22 and 29/9)
- The Photography Challenge will include your photo going into a public City of Whittlesea online gallery and also an opportunity (if you tick the box in the rego form) to be part of a Photography Workshop with Pro-Photographer. This is also free.
Here is the link to our page on Council’s website… it has all of the activities information and booking links.
I have also attached the tiles so you can share them separately with your groups. It would be great if we could all get a group to join in a trivia event!!
(Please do share)
Lots of promotion on Baseline and Councils facebook and Instagram pages so keep an eye out for that and direct any young people and their families to those as well as Council’s webpage.
Thanks for you of your help with this, looking forward to an amazing school holidays!!
